The Eastern Cape is South Africa’s second largest and most diverse province

It’s a great sun, sand a sea destination with a coastline that runs from temperate rocky shores in the south to sub-tropical beaches in the north. Nieu Bethesda, which is close to Graaff-Reinet, is a funky little village that owes its poularity to the existence of the Owl House, which is South Africa’s most well known example of outsider art. Port Elizabeth is renowned for its excellent township and cultural tours. The Nelson Mandela Museum in Umtata is a loving tribute to South Africa’s first president. Thre are great tours along the Wild Coast, on which you get to spend time with the local people and see how they live. The Grahamstown Festival or, more accurately, the National Festival of the Arts, which showcases a huge variety of South Africa’s visual and performance arts, is held in Grahamstown at the beginning of July.

There are some excellent golf courses, but they’re not all as conveniently close together as they are, for example, on the Garden Route. Some of the better courses are to be found in or near Port Elizabeth, Port Alfred, East London and Port Edward. A brand new golf course has been built at the rather interesting town of Alicedale, which is experiencing a huge economic revival after spending years as a virtual ghost town.

You can predict your future. You really can predict your own success or your own failure. “Nonsense!” you say? It really is true.

It is true; we have absolutely no control over many things in life. I cannot control the stock market, can you? I cannot control the housing market, can you? So many things are simply out of our control.

But, one thing is very much in your control, your own mind. You can choose to think about anything that you want to, at any given time. Right now, for example, you could choose to picture a skiing elephant.

If you did indeed, just now, picture a skiing elephant it is because you decided to think that. I may have made a suggestion, but you made a decision to think it and picture it. The same is true if you chose not to think about a skiing elephant.

So what does this have to do with predicting our future? Because we are always talking to ourselves, it has a great effect on our future. The words we speak to ourselves will either cause new things to happen in our life or they will help to perpetuate the road we are on.

Years ago, I used to go bowling once in awhile. It was just for fun with friends and I would go once or twice a year. The scores on my first three frames were always horrible. Do you know why?

As soon as I would grab the ball when it was my turn, I had the thought, “Don’t throw it in the gutter; don’t throw it in the gutter!” That was my self-talk. And, I didn’t know it at the time, but that was my prediction. Almost always in the first three frames, I would have at least two or three gutter balls.

But, once the game got going, I would shift my focus from the ball not going into the gutter to hitting the pins. I didn’t know it, but again, that was a prediction. And even being a very inexperienced bowler, my scores increased. I even got a strike once in awhile.

Now I know there are people who say, “Oh I’ve heard all this positive stuff before and it just doesn’t work for me.” That is self-talk and that is a prediction. I have also heard people who say other things, like, “Nothing ever goes right for me; I never catch a break.” Or, “I knew that was going to happen.”

Self-talking becomes future predictions. These predictions always produce results.

Those who are successful in life don’t dwell on what they don’t want to happen, but instead they dwell on what they do want to happen. They don’t dwell on their past failures and losses. Instead, they remember past successes. These memories, whether they are successes or failures, will evoke feelings and emotions. These feelings and emotions leave an imprint on your subconscious mind which is just as vivid as a reoccurrence of success. And, these thoughts are a prediction of what is going to happen.

Many of those who teach self-help and self-esteem courses say to see yourself as though you have already achieved what you desire in life. They encourage people to positively remind themselves over and over of where they want their life to go. So much of this is based on the dynamic truth, “as he thinks in his heart so is he.”

You cannot control nor can you predict many things going on all around you. But you can control what you think about. And most importantly, you can control what you tell yourself about yourself; your self-talk.

You really can predict your own future. You can set your own course regardless of the situations and conditions of the world around you. The Creator gave you free will so that you can choose your thoughts and thus control your own self-talk.

Believe it or not, people dream about more than cars, homes, or the perfect spouse. People dream about document archives! Okay, so maybe they don’t consciously dream about them, but you had better believe that subconsciously, most people have wanted access to at least one document archive full of unlimited information. Document Archive #1: Searchable Recipes

If I myself were to create my own document archive of unlimited information, it would contain every recipe ever created. Plus, once the information was converted to an electronic database, I could make the recipes searchable by ingredient, by tools required, by quantity desired, by nutrition information, by texture, by color, by presentation style, by origination, by religious associations, by the chemical structure, by language or by the culture they are usually associated with. Every recipe would also include at least three detailed photographs of the recipe process and the finished product(s).

Document Archive #2: Surf Video Feeds

A friendly co-worker of mine didn’t take long to say that one of his dream document archives wouldn’t be documents at all, but instead would be “takes” or video material that would be provided via feeds on the Internet. These video feeds would contain footage of all of the surfing venues across the world. This of course could make an impressive video database.

Written content could also be included in the database as well. The content could be searchable by surfing location, nearby hostels and hotels, cultural descriptions, links to language course options, links to nearby restaurants, tourist trap information, the amount of people who annually visit the venue, etc., etc., etc. You could go on and on. It would be a like a hyped-up traveling site for surfers!

Document Archive #3: Cheating

Another co-worker who I consider slightly mischievous was not afraid to admit that he would prefer to have a document archive of video game “cheats” and “codes.” Okay, so in the video-gaming world, do they really consider “cheats & codes” to be real cheating? I’m not so sure. At any rate, if this dream document archive was changed to a searchable database, I think that searching by the title of the game, version of the game, writer of the game, or even particular graphics or text contained in the game would keep you busily “cheating.”

Document Archive #4: Laugh Out Loud!

This suggestion didn’t surprise me at all. After all, who wouldn’t want to be able to laugh whenever he or she wanted to? I think we all would and another co-worker of mine is no exception. One of his preferences for a large supply of information (his document archive) would be composed of humorous quotes. I think that in a database the quotes could be searchable by other keywords or key phrases and could also be sorted by author, time period, length of excerpt, etc.

Document Archive #5: An Interest in the Criminal Mind

I have to admit that one suggestion from a cute female co-worker of mine surprised me a lot. She said that she would want information regarding every criminal in the world on an online database. She told me she would want to know what crime each criminal had performed and how they did it. She expressed particular interest in knowing how criminals rob banks. Perhaps criminal psychology is her forte.

At any rate, think of the possibilities. Perhaps you or your children would like to study computer science and/or learn how to create software and databases that would make people’s dreams come true.
