I Remember Being Happy

Looking at all the happy people at Margarettaville was a nice site.  I remember being happy .  There is a nice energy in the air when you witness it.  I got my doggy Chico in with me since he is a service dog.  I had to  pick him up so the dancing crowd would not squash the little cutie pie.  Being Thanksgiving weekend I had family guests with me and we played pool.  I begged out after seeing an entire game went by without me getting one ball in the pocket.  My nephew was smooth with his shots and truly impressed me. We visited the largest growing retirement Village in the United States.  It’s called the Villages.  It closes up aobut 9pm.

All alone here again with you and my typewriter.  What would one do without a computer.  I was in that between ages.  When I retired from teaching I almost was convinced I did not need one until my son in law convinced me to buy one from his friend’s store.  So now I get to play chess everyday with people around the world and trade on eBay.  There’s a whole world out there on the internet and I am an active participant.

So, my husband picked Central Florida to move to from Long Beach, NY.  Three years later he died at 5am like Tim Russet.  Still in shock.  My world collapsed.  I was the happiest woman on the face of the earth living with the perfect husband.  He was the sexiest man of the face of the earth.  Not only was he a wizard at the stock market, a  great golfer and gourmet cook-he was loving and took such care of me.  After retiring from being a High School Principal his new job was me.  I was a handful.  John provided for me after his death.  I have it all except the most important ingredient-my true love.

So I surfed the internet and saw Tampa has a ski group going to Breckinridge.  I decided to go for it with strangers.  It won’t be like skiing in Vermont by our ski home with a gang of friends-but it will be skiing.   I look forward to great exercise and beauty in the mountains of Colorado.  Maybe I should just book trip after trip.  I am living here in a place my friend’s call “Buttfuck” since they cannot see being North of Boca unless you’re in New York.  I see their point when I pass 3 cow pastures on the way to the Post Office.  I was told not to brag about being surrounded by horses and buffalo here-so I won’t.

I joined a club unwittingly.  The sisterhood of widows.  Never thought I’d be one.  I imagined we die in some disaster together.  Maybe a plane crash or hitting a tree skiing together.  No such luck.  I am here and my Johnny is not.  Should I pair up with another man.  I look around and see nice folk that are not like me.  They are mostly from the central states in my golf community.  When you leave my gated country club you run into men with piercings, tattoo’s and backwards hat.  Some of them have all their teeth.  So maybe I will not meet another and I am too frozen to move further South at this time.

My girlfriend has been widowed 15 years and prefers a solo life.  She told me you have to kiss a lot of frogs and then you still do not find Mr. Right.  I lived with Mr. Perfect so what to do-watch TV, golf and surf the internet and fast forward commercials.  It’s a life of sorts.

I attended a grievance group here that depressed me even more than I was before going.  It had parents that lost their children.  I could not bear their pain and then I was told I could not truly grieve if I did not take Jesus Christ into my life.  So I am about the only Jew in this area and there were no Jewish grievance groups-so at my age I should be able to handle my pain with my brain.  I have had years of education and taught high school health and PE-so to my own self be true.

Thanks for listening to my woe.  I am a work in progress and know not where I am going so I’ll golf, ski and play Mah jongg.

New Zealand Is A Dream Destination

There is no lovelier place to visit than New Zealand; it is a dream destination. New Zealand is filled with opportunities for vigorous outdoor activities or lazy relaxed snoozes on sandy deserted beaches. New Zealand is comprised of two large islands located in the South Pacific about 7,000 miles from Los Angeles. The best way to get there is to find which airlines fly to New Zealand. It is about a twelve hour non-stop flight from the West Coast of the United States to Auckland, New Zealand. Most flights take off for over night flights. Travelers can sleep through most of their travel time.

Once there, visitors can enjoy the Southern Alps on the South Island and skiing, or the beaches and surfing on the North Island. There are swift-flowing rivers that beckon fishermen and rafters alike. Stunning hiking trails with waterfalls, clear alpine lakes, and abundant greenery entice nature lovers from around the world. Volcanic mountains dot the North Island as well as tropical rainforests. For those seeking solitude with spectacular scenery, they can find it in New Zealand. The population is only four million; one of the least densely populated countries in the world. However, the cities of Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch do offer all the modern amenities of any large city with plenty of activities and nightlife excitement.

One of New Zealand’s best attractions is the fact that its glorious summers of warm temperatures and dry humidity occur at opposite times of those in North America. If visitors are longing to escape the cold of winter, purchase air fares for New Zealand and enjoy summer all over again. One thing to consider, though, airfares to New Zealand are discounted, sometimes heavily, in the off season months of June, July, and August. The north island has a subtropical climate and the temperature is only about 10 degrees cooler during the winter, so it can be enjoyed year around. The South island is a little colder, especially in the mountains. However, this works out great for avid skiers. They can purchase cheap airfares to New Zealand and enjoy winter all over again in the Southern Alps.

Another attraction of New Zealand is its friendly people. With its high diversified population, New Zealanders, or Kiwis as they refer to themselves, are individualistic and are happy to welcome all who visit their country. Maoris are the natives to the land, and their arts and crafts are colorful reminders of their Polynesian Heritage. Visitors can also watch a game of Rugby, the national sport. Each game begins with Haka, a Maori Dance, which is meant to inspire fear in opponents. Also travelers should enjoy some of the local cuisine which focuses on lamb and fish.

Air fare to New Zealand can be found which is reasonably priced, so don’t let the fear of high priced air fares to New Zealand stop any one who wishes to enjoy the beauty of this remarkable country. New Zealand is a dream destination that will keep cameras busy and will create lasting memories. Check out airfares to New Zealand soon and enjoy a dream come true.

Planning Romantic Vacations in the Caribbean: 6 Easy Steps

Do you want to take a romantic vacation with your partner? Whether that getaway will be a surprise or if you plan it together, you need to take a number of steps. Luckily, planning a trip the Caribbean is actually a lot easier than it sounds!

So, what do you need to do?

1 – Order Passports

Unless you have traveled out of the country before, you need to order a passport. Both you and your romantic partner need to have valid passports. You cannot travel by air to and from Jamaica without them. Passports take up to two months to arrive. Order them in advance.

2 – Decide Where to Travel

You already decided to travel to the Caribbean. Where in the Caribbean? You have so many amazing options. The Caribbean is a phrase that describes a beautiful and large area. Inside that area, you will find the Bahamas, Aruba, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, just to name a few.

If you do not have a preference, quickly examine and compare travel costs. Look for the cheapest. Or, examine nearby attractions and vacation resorts. Choose the destination that can make your travel dreams come alive.

3 – Decide When to Travel

As previously stated, a passport is required for travel to and from Jamaica from air. Since it can take up to two months for passports to arrive, give yourself this time. Book your Caribbean travel package at least three months in advance. Not only does this give you travel preparation time, but early reservations often result in the best deals and accommodations.

In addition to deciding when to travel, determine for how long. You can visit the Caribbean for as few as 2 days or as long as you want. On average, travel experts recommend that those on romantic vacations spend at least 5 days in the area. There is so much to do and see, but 5 days gives the best chance of enjoying most.

4 – Examine All-Inclusive Resorts

No matter where you travel to in the Caribbean, you should have all-inclusive resorts available. Closely examine these resorts. They are not like traditional hotels or vacation resorts. The costs will seem high upfront, but examine the package. You get more than just a hotel or resort room. The cost of accommodations, food, drinks, tips, and some forms of entertainment should be included. Yes, you do pay more for an all-inclusive travel package upfront, but you get the best value for your money in the end.

Since there are many all-inclusive Caribbean resorts, closely examine each. Choose the resort with the best travel deals and discounts, as well as the one that gives you your wants and needed. Do you want to spend your days relaxing by the beach? Opt for an all-inclusive beach resort. Do you want to spend your afternoons playing a game of golf on the green? Opt for an all-inclusive resort with an onsite golf course.

5 – Make Your Travel Arrangements

Once you have researched and compared your travel options, make the plans. If your all-inclusive travel package does not include airline reservations, make these first. Ensure you can get a flight down before paying for your hotel or resort. To get the best prices and the best accommodations, book travel plans well in advance of your trip. As stated above, do so at least three months in advance. This prevents any last minute surprises from hampering your romantic Caribbean getaway.

6 – Research Area Attractions

If you opt for an all-inclusive Caribbean resort, you are at an advantage. That advantage is you have the world within your reach. All-inclusive resorts are designed so you never have to leave! There is so much to do onsite. Beachfront resorts often have water skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and windsurfing available for guests. All resorts should be home to swimming pool and fitness center. Still, research area attractions. If you want to get out and explore the Caribbean island of your choice, have an idea of where to go. Know ahead of time if admission fees are charged, how to get there, and if the area is safe for tourists.

In short, you can easily plan a romantic vacation in the Caribbean in six easy steps. After these steps are complete, sit back and wait. Before the trip date arrives, pack your luggage. It really is as easy as that!

Be Amazed By Famous South African And Zimbabwe Safaris

South African safaris are home to wide spectrum of animal species including the celebrated group of five: the buffalo, rhino, lion, elephant and leopard.

They were not named so because they have gained great popularity but because they mainly offer the experience of witnessing the dance of life happening in sight of travelers. They are the hunters that give fright to their preys. Thus, excitement for their viewers.

Game viewing, as this activity is called, is typically done with walking safari. However, due to the increase in popularity of canoeing, horseback riding and camel safaris walking becomes only one of a tourist’ option. It is designed specifically for the hardy souls though and for the physically fit.

A standard walking safari is composed of 8 to 12 persons aged 12 to 60. This lasts for 3 days and 2 nights. With other modes of game viewing however, one should be in company of a guide.

The flagship of all South African safaris is the Kruger National Park creation of Paul Kruger, the president of Transvaal Republic in 1898. His advanced vision sparked the idea of creating wildlife sanctuaries and preservation areas to let nature continue growing at her own rate.

With the Kruger National Park, South Africa is truly unrivalled in its immense resources. The big five aside, South African harbors some of animal world’s most interesting games such as the wild dogs, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, warthog, an array of antelope species and jackals, hippos, and zebras. Kruger Park is also home for some 500 species of birds and 140 species of mammals.

With its 20, 000 sq. km land area of unspoilt land, Kruger offers visitors not only its animal resources but also its wide spectrum of plant species. South Africa safaris are not only made famous by the Kruger National Park, they also placed their names in top African destination through the fame of The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park- one of the biggest wildlife conservation areas in the world.

It is not for the fainthearted though. This is the sight for the distinguished black-maned Kalahari lions along with other animal species like bat-eared foxes, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, and the likes. While on South African safaris, never forget to take some images of wildlife with you. Capture them in photos if you can. Animals such as those that thrive in nature pass only once. It would be wise if you can have a token of remembrance from them.

Although many places and creatures in Africa are the best in their own kinds, some still assert that Zimbabwe offers some of the bests.

Be stunned by the waters of the Victoria Falls, be amazed by the rolling hills, experience the circle of life with the enormous elephants and buffalo and never forget, go back in time with the rock arts that were created even before civilizations sprouted.

Although Zimbabwe safaris are only some of the seemingly endless offerings of Africa, wonders of nature can still be found in here that may not be found anywhere else. In this article, we have collected some of the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that cover Zimbabwe safaris.

Chimanimani National Park, situated at the eastern region of Zimbabwe, this park is the only one that allows hikers and trailers to travel without guides. It is a botanist’s paradise since it boasts hundreds of plant species.

Chizarira National Park, famous for its panoramic views, Chizarira is not for the faint hearted. It has difficult access that very remote. Nonetheless, it offers its guests amazing sites of natural wonders.

Gonarezhou National Park, at one point in time the elephants dwelled in here thus the name Gonarezhou which literally meant as “abode of elephants”. But people are now trying to recover its past but the elephants never forget. They tend to become nasty to visitors.

Hwange National Park, being the premier game viewing area of Zimbabwe, Hwange is the largest national park. It never gets crowded though. The driest months are the peak season for the visits. This is when game viewing is most excellent since animals congregate within water holes. This park also harbors the largest and most diverse animal species in the region, some 400 birds species and the combination of plain animals and the predators.

Lake Kariba, a man-made water reserve, Lake Kariba now serves as the haven for water adventure lovers. It features water skiing, fishing and sailing. Swimming is not allowed since it is also the haven for crocodiles and other reptiles.

Matopos National Park, this is where history seemed to centralized. Packed with many cave men drawings that depict the existence of life in the soil of Zimbabwe even before it was discovered. It also harbors thick population of wild animals including the rare black rhino.

Matusadona National Park, featuring wild mountains and flat plains, Matusadona is truly a land of rising and falling altitudes. It is also known for nursing large herds of both fish eagles and buffalo.

We Have Made Ski Vacations A Family Get Together

My wife and I have always tried to take time off in the summer as well as the winter. We plan our vacations around our children’s school schedule. The summer months are generally easier to arrange due to the extended length of time that school is not in session, however the holiday breaks and spring breaks are generally harder to plan for. Several years ago we decided that we would look into ski vacations to take over the holiday break. Our children were ten and twelve years old at the time and they enjoy skiing and last year wanted to begin snowboarding.

My wife found a good deal on two ski vacations which also accommodated my childrens wish to begin snowboarding. The only problem was that the flight was on Christmas day evening. That year Christmas fell on a Monday so we celebrated with my side of the family on Saturday evening, his side of the family on Sunday and we had our own family Christmas Monday morning prior to heading out to the airport. We bought each of the kids a portable CD player that year so that occupied their time during the flight. The ski package that we purchased included a two bedroom chalet with a kitchen and living room area. There was a hot tub that fit six people on a raised platform area in the living room. The hot tub over looked the mountains and one of the skiing runs. The chalet was a short walk to the main lodge. The lodge had a dining area, bar and large game room with pool tables, arcade games and tables to play board games. Their selection of board games was huge.

The lodge was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We arrived at the lodge at 5:00PM. We unpacked our bags and then went to have dinner together. We played a board game after dinner then went back to our chalet and spent time in the hot tub. The next day we skied and went into town for groceries. It was a magical week that I know my children will remember for the rest of their lives. We have never laughed so much at my antics on a snowboard because as they wanted to begin snowboarding I decided that I woud also begin snowboarding. Now I am not so sure!

This year my wife is again checking out ski vacations. Our oldest child is a senior in high school this year, so this may be our last family trip during the holiday time. We have not gone back to that first lodge again; partly because of the expense and partly because the time was so perfect that I doubt that it can be duplicated. This year Christmas falls on a Monday again. My wife feels that this is a sign that we should repeat the skiing package. Our children are excited about doing this also. That had been their favorite time out of the ski vacations we have taken. The price has gone up considerably, but we have decided that this will be our Christmas present. I am looking forward to a special time with my family.

Sweating With Wii Consoles and Wii Sports Resort

A Little Bit of Company History

Nintendo is the popular company that introduced and popularized video games in the middle of the 1970s. However, this company does not solely produce video games. In fact, it initially started with the production of handmade Hanafuda, which are popular Japanese gaming cards. Later, the company tried out other niche businesses completely different from the Hanafuda production. During the electronic era, the company launched another business—the video game systems and portable ones, too. Portable video games that Nintendo produced are the Game and Watch line, Game Boy Series and Nintendo DS and DSi. Among its home video game product lines are Color TV Game, Nintendo NES, SNES, Virtual Box, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Game Cube and Wii Consoles.

Wii Defined

The Wii Consoles is the first ever Nintendo video game that does not have the name Nintendo. It is simply called Wii, with the two small letter “i” representing two people both attracted to the video game experience of Wii Consoles regardless of age and experience. They are beside each other, which means that they sit down and play together. The company decided on this unique name similar to the gaming capabilities of the Wii Consoles, which have motivated the interests of so many people. Kids and adults alike love the fun games that Wii Consoles bring. It is the interactive video game that mimics your every movement on the screen. Whether it is boxing, tennis, or bowling, you have to act like you are actually in a real game. It is one great way to exercise and have fun right in the comforts of your own home.

The recently launched Wii Sports for the Wii Consoles is loaded with five games namely bowling, baseball, tennis, boxing, and golf, a wireless Wii Remote, and a Nunchuk. It has a 2-disc format that is loaded and played in a single media bay that enables the Wii Consoles to support the NES games of the 1980s and the GameCube with its backward compatibility option. Wii Consoles are also capable of online connectivity through Wi-Fi access to weather reports, news, and photo sharing and viewing among others.

Wii Sports Resort Sneak Peek

The latest buzz that has been around lately is the upcoming Wii Sports Resort. Wii Sports Resort introduces new ways of video game playing that will again stimulate fun and excitement for the entire family. The Wii Sports Resort lets you feel the true blue fun of a beach setup. It is a standing sequel of the ongoing series of games for the Wii Consoles. The upcoming Wii Sports Resort will employ the accessory Wii Motion Plus that will be plugged into the Wiimote Jacket. Together with the enhanced accelerometer and the sensor bar, players will jump up and down with fun in this new Wii game. Games that are alleged to be included are Disc Dog (Frisbee), Power Cruising (Jet Skiing), and Sword Play (Kendo).

Where to Find Availability Check and Price Comparison

Wii Consoles are truly in great demand and you hardly see them in department stores as the game is always out of stock. But Wii Consoles are widely available in the Internet. To check real time stock updates, Wii Compare is the best website to visit.

Wii Sports Resort Complements the Wii Consoles

Nintendo, the Video Gaming Company

Nintendo has brought another gaming innovation out to the market. Nintendo, the oldest multinational company from Kyoto, Japan, is among the industry’s most powerful video game producing company. From the time this company was conceptualized, it had already evolved and ventured in varied industries from the production of Hanafuda playing cards, taxi, food and hotel businesses to the video game systems. Since the late 70s, it has come to produce over 2 billion video games already.

Among the video game systems that stirred the interests of the gaming public are the Color TV Game, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Virtual Boy, the Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube and the most recent Wii and its Wii consoles. Nintendo also produced portable game consoles like Game and Watch game lines, the Game Boy Series such as Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy SP, the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi.

The Wii Console and Its Features

Wii Consoles are home video games released by Nintendo in 2006. It is a seventh generation game console that was meant to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3. The Wii console is featured with a wireless Wii Remote controller, which detects movements in three dimensions. It can also be used as a handheld pointing device. It also has a WiiConnect24 that receives messages and updates from the Internet even when the Wii console is in its standby mode.

The Wii Sports Sequel

From the Wii Sports that has just recently been out in the market comes the Wii Sports Resort. It uses Wii Motion Plus to give the players a most realistic gaming experience. To give the player a deeper sense of immersion, you just have to plug the Wii Sports Resort into the base of the Wii remote control together with its sensor bar and accelerometer. As fun as it is to play, it is also fun to just watch the players. It is easy to learn and people can easily pick up the game of any Wii Consoles.

Wii is surely loaded with fun that not only kids get to enjoy but even adults. Rather than go and play outside, playing your favorite sport with Wii Consoles never has to be an outdoor activity. Wii Sports Resort for Wii Consoles, which has been set to be released in 2009, has already lots of followers eager to play the ongoing series of sports that are to be loaded in their Wii Consoles. The games in the Wii Sports Resort have a beach resort setting and are compatible with the Wii Motion Plus. The new sports game for Wii has to be bundled with a Wii Motion Plus device and the Wii Remote Jacket but are sold separately though. The games that have already been developed for the Wii Sports Resort are Jet Skiing, Kendo, and Frisbee. There are still seven games that have to be filled in to complete ten games in the final package.

With these cool gadgets for the Wii games, every major electronic store is bound to get stocks to accommodate every gamer’s needs. Gamers on the other hand have to have a way to get an overview of the prices from these stores. One such place is at Wii compare.

Your Teens in New York City

New York City offers a virtual treasure chest of fun things to do for teenagers. This age group is generally the most difficult to please and appease while vacationing. They are too old for the kid stuff and too young to appreciate some of the more ‘grown up’ entertainment and of course, they don’t want to look like they’re having too much fun. From amusement parks to cyber cafes, from bookstores to malls and video arcades, to sporting events and sporting complexes New York City is a city that was almost made for teens to enjoy.

The trick to enjoying your New York City vacation while ensuring that your teen enjoys his or her time in the city is compromise. Agree to go watch the skateboarding in the park if he or she will suffer through a museum with you. You just might find that you each find something to enjoy about the other’s activities. There are so many wonderful things to do and see in New York. You don’t have to pay a lot of money in order to have a good time as many of these wonderful events are offered free or for very little cost. You can also purchase passes that allow free entrance to certain city attractions for one low fee. You will find that of the freebie offerings there is usually something that will appeal to various members of your family including your teens.

Compromise is a good idea on any vacation with friends or family and it teaches your teens an important lesson-their opinion matters to you. They also learn to compromise, to share time and experiences, and to think critically. They are forced to weight all the things they would like to do and select the things that matter most to them to do. This is a very good thing for people to learn as early as possible and will be an invaluable lesson, as they grow older and eventually begin making their own decisions in life as well. I even try to offer the younger children a voice in what’s going on. I offer age appropriate choices and allow them to select the one that matters most to them.

Teens are often very hard to please or predict and their wants can change between the time it takes to open a pack of pop tarts and the time it takes to actually drop them in the toaster. Be aware of this when making plans with teens and go with the flow. You do not have to let your teen rule your vacation but by allowing him or her a voice in the decision making process you might all learn some important and interesting things about each other.

Girl teens are often easily distracted by shopping-while New York City has some of the trendiest boutiques you may want to see if you can talk her into some of them any consignment or secondhand stores that abound. You can call it ‘vintage clothing’ if you must in order to get her in the doors but you can score some awesome deals on clothes that look barely worn if that and she’ll have some nice additions to her wardrobe for a fraction of their costs if new. There are also some wonderful outlet malls in NYC as well. The trick with shopping any of these stores is to know the prices of things. Some things are excellent bargains while others are not so much.

Teen boys will have a grand time at places such as Game Time Nation where they can play video games for endless hours. You can even try playing games together if you’re brave enough. Fair warning offered here, teens are brutal in their victories and you will never live down your failures in the video game arena with them so study up before hand.

The most important thing to remember about vacationing with your teen is that you’d like them to have some fond memories of your time together, even during their teen years. Take care that you are including them in your plans rather than making their plans for them. It is time they are let into the decision making process to some degree even if it’s allowing either or options or asking them to list a few things they’d like to do and you selecting from those. If you’re having fun it is quite likely that they will eventually join in.

Guitar Hero III World Tour

Guitar Hero has become a cultural phenomenon in the world of computer video games. The guitar, software, and accessories are availabe in all gaming platforms including Wii, Playstation, Xbox, etc. Guitar Hero is a series of music video games published by RedOctane, in partnership with Activision. The series is notable for its use of a plastic guitar peripheral to simulate the playing of music, represented on-screen by colored notes that correspond to fret buttons on the controller.

Heidi Klum Guitar Hero

Their has recently been a controversial advertisement with model Heidi Klum playing Guitar Hero in her undergarments! The games support individual play as well as cooperative and competitive modes for two players. The series has used a range of both licensed and independent rock music tracks from the 1960s, throughout the decades to the present, including many master tracks from the bands. In total, six games have been released for video game consoles. Games have also been released for mobile phones and the Nintendo DS handheld gaming system.

History

The series was originally developed by Harmonix Music Systems from 2005 to 2007. Then development duties of the series were transferred to Neversoft, whose first effort, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was released on October 28, 2007 in North America.

The Guitar Hero franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, making many appearances in popular culture, and the games have become extremely popular as party games and hobbies. The series has sold 23 million units, earning $1.6 billion in retail sales.

Guitar Controller

Guitar Hero is unusual because it comes packaged with a controller peripheral modeled after a black Gibson SG guitar. Rather than a typical gamepad. This guitar controller is the primary input for the game. Playing the game with the guitar controller simulates playing an actual guitar, except it uses five colored “fret buttons” and a “strum bar” instead of frets and strings. The development of Guitar Hero was inspired by Konami’s GuitarFreaks arcade game, which at the time, had not seen much exposure in the North American market; RedOctane, already selling guitar-shaped controllers for imported copies of GuitarFreaks, approached Harmonix about creating a game to use an entirely new Guitar controller.

The concept was to have the gameplay of Amplitude with the visuals of Karaoke Revolution, both of which had been developed by Harmonix. The game was met with critical acclaim and received numerous awards for its innovative guitar peripheral and its soundtrack, which comprised 47 playable rock songs (most of which were cover versions of popular songs from artists and bands from the 1960s through modern rock). Guitar Hero has sold nearly 1.5 million copies to date.

Guitar Hero II Release

The popularity of the series increased dramatically with the release of Guitar Hero II for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Featuring improved multiplayer gameplay, an improved note-recognizing system, and 64 songs, it became the fifth best-selling video game of 2006. The PlayStation 2 version of the game was offered both separately and in a bundle with a cherry red Gibson SG guitar controller. Guitar Hero II was later released for the Xbox 360 in April 2007 with an exclusive Gibson X-Plorer guitar controller and an additional 10 songs, among other features. About 3 million units of Guitar Hero II have sold on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360.

The final game in the Guitar Hero series to be developed by Harmonix was Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s for the PlayStation 2, which was released in July 2007. This final game version, changing the visuals from Guitar Hero II, and shortening the song list with no bonus songs was not as well received by reviewers.

Transition

Transition Both RedOctane and Harmonix were experiencing changes in 2006. RedOctane was bought by Activision in June while it was announced in September that Harmonix would be purchased by MTV Networks. As a result of the two purchases, Harmonix would no longer develop future games in the Guitar Hero series. Instead, developing would go to Neversoft, a subsidiary of Activision known for developing the Tony Hawk’s series of skateboarding games.

Neversoft

Neversoft was chosen to helm the Guitar Hero series after Neversoft founder, Joel Jewett, admitted to the RedOctane founders, Kai and Charles Huang, that his development team for Tony Hawk’s Project 8 went to work on weekends just to play Guitar Hero. In 2007, Harmonix and MTV Games released a new music title through rival publisher Electronic Arts, called Rock Band. It expanded upon the gameplay popularized by the Guitar Hero series by adding drum and microphone instruments, allowing players to simulate playing songs as bands, though this functionality has now been implemented in Guitar Hero World Tour.

Guitar Hero III:

Legends of Rock was released in late 2007 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, and Mac platforms. The title is the first installment of the series to include wireless guitars bundled with the game and also the first to release a special bundle with two guitars. The game includes Slash and Tom Morello as playable characters in addition to the existing fictional avatars; both guitarists performed motion capture to be used for their characters animation in the game.

Guitar Hero III World Tour (aka Guitar Hero IV)

Guitar Hero World Tour, previously named Guitar Hero IV, is the fourth full game in the series and was released on October 26, 2008 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Analysts had expected that future Guitar Hero games in 2008 would include additional instrument peripherals to compete against Rock Band. Guitar Hero World Tour was confirmed as in development following the announcement of the merger between Activision and Vivendi Games in December 2007. Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick announced on April 21, 2008 that Guitar Hero World Tour will branch out into other instruments including vocals. Guitar Hero World Tour includes drums and is packaged with a new drum set controller. A larger number of real-world musicians appear as playable characters, including the great Jimi Hendrix, Billy Corgan, Sting, and Ozzy Osbourne. Guitar Hero World Tour also features the creation of custom songs that can be shared with others.

On September 4, 2007, Billboard announced that the band Aerosmith was “working closely with the makers of Guitar Hero IV, which will be dedicated to the group’s music.” On February 15, 2008, Activision announced that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, an expansion game to the series, would be released on June 29, 2008.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is developed by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, while the Wii version of the game is developed by Vicarious Visions and the PlayStation 2 version is developed by Budcat Creations. The game features a track selection composed of 60% of Aerosmith songs, with other songs from Joe Perry’s solo work or artists that have inspired or performed with Aerosmith, including Run D.M.C. Also in the works: Activision’s 2008 SEC filings cited that they plan to release Guitar Hero: Metallica by the first quarter of 2009.

By all expectations Guitar Hero will once again be the number one selling computer video game of the year in 2008. The Guitar Hero phenomenon lives on!
